Nineteen years ago, the Visiting Nurses Foundation and Assured Home Health and Hospice began sponsoring a Hospice Tree. Originally, it was known as the hospice tree because it provided an opportunity for the family and friends of hospice patients to gather and decorate a tree in honor of loved ones who had died. Over the years, it has evolved into a ceremony and event that has grown to encompass a larger audience with the emphasis on the Celebration of Life. The tree is a celebration of life because it is decorated with ornaments sponsored by those who have lost a loved one or have a living friend or family member they would like to recognize. Each ornament includes the name of the person memorialized or honored and will be hung on the tree as sponsorship requests come in.
Beginning November 15th, the tree will be on display at the Visiting Nurses Thrift Shop in Centralia at 222 S. Pearl Street, across from the Berryfields Café. On Sunday, December 19st at 1:00 PM there will be a short candlelight memorial service. At this time, we gather around the hospice tree to celebrate the lives of our loved ones in song and prayer. The tree will remain on display until Dec. 27.
