On Monday, March 17th, the Centralia College Vocal Ensembles will present a free concert featuring music celebrating the holidays of January through March, along with selections from classical vocal music repertoire. The concert will be at the Harrison Square Presbyterian Church at 7:30 pm.
The concert will open with songs in Latin set to music written by contemporary composers. The Latin works include “Kyrie” from “Memorial” by René Clausen, “Agnus Dei” by Brian Lewis, “Holy” by Craig Courtney, and “Salmo 150” by Brazilian composer, Ernani Aguiar. Celtic music to honor St. Patrick’s Day will include “O My Luve’s Like a Red, Red Rose” based on a poem by Robert Burns (1759 – 1796), “The Wind that Shakes the Barley” based on the poem by Robert Dwyer Joyce, “The Kerry Dance”, “An Irish Lullaby” by Alice Rose Denny, and “Mountain Dance” by Roger Emerson. Rounding out the program will be “You Are the New Day”, “Sure on this Shining Night”, and “Something Told the Wild Geese”. A great addition to the evening’s program will be accompaniments by violin, flute, cello, viola, guitar, and bodhran.
A free will offering will be collected and all donations will be given to the Lewis County Food Bank. This event is sponsored by Pro Musica, the Centralia College Music club.
