Merrie Fidler?s All American Girls Professional Baseball League
Merrie Fidler spent many years researching the All American Girls Professional Baseball League for her master thesis in sports history. Fidler’s presentation will trace the history of baseball and the social changes which contributed to women's participation in the game of baseball from the mid-1800s up to and including the history of the AAGBBL. The presentation will include video recording of some actual AAGBBL practices and game play. The All-American Girls Professional Baseball League gave over 600 women athletes the opportunity to play professional baseball and to play it at a level never before attained. The League operated from 1943 to 1954 and represents one of the most unique aspects of our nation's baseball history. Two former AAGBBL players, Jeneane Lesko and Lois Youngen, will join Fidler for this presentation. Jeneane has been a realtor and is currently involved in developing a computer-based business. Lois retired from working in the Physical Education Dept. at the University of Oregon. For more information: www.merriefedler.comhttp://www.aagpbl.org/league/history.cfm
