Red Cross Real Heroes Awards Breakfast of Lewis County

Celebrating Red Cross Real Heroes of Lewis County Join the American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter on Tuesday, August 19, 2008, to honor our community's heroes during the 12th Annual Red Cross Real Heroes of Lewis County Awards Breakfast. Civic leaders and community members will gather at Centralia High School from 6:30 AM to 8:30 AM in support of the special celebration and Red Cross fundraiser. Proceeds from the event will benefit local Red Cross disaster relief and emergency preparedness programs in our community. Disasters often occur with very little or no warning. The devastation can be widespread and hamper rescue and recovery efforts for days, weeks, months and sometimes even years. During the 2007 December storm, the local American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter provided $824,810 in direct financial assistance (cash funds, which does not include the costs of sheltering, feeding, distributing cleaning supplies, or logistics during the relief efforts) to Lewis County storm victims. The local Red Cross chapter assisted 2,327 disaster clients and served 41,000 snacks and meals. Hundreds of Red Cross volunteers donated their time and skills during the days, weeks, and months of the disaster relief operation.
